Feri Zotter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Feri Zotter (* 1923 in Neumarkt an der Raab ; † February 22, 1987 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter. He was the first director of the Burgenland State Gallery in Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt .

Live and act

Zotter, seriously wounded in World War II , made connections with artistic circles in Munich. In 1948 he attended the Kunstgewerbeschule Graz , from 1952 to 1955 the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, master classes in mosaics and decoration, printing processes and tapestry weaving (degree: academic painter  ). Zotter became a member of the New Hagenbund and successor to Rudolf Klaudus , who had reorganized and rejuvenated the new Burgenland Artists' Union . A first exhibition with Karl Prantl and Rudolf Kedl in the Eisenstadt orangery caused a sensation, but was rejected by many visitors. The Viennese press rated them positively.

In 1964 Feri Zotter founded the Neumarkt an der Raab cultural association with the state curator Alfred Schmeller and the teacher Eduard Sauerzopf from Jennersdorf . Initially to prevent the planned demolition of an old smoke kitchen house. This resulted in a studio house and, with the support of the cultural councilor Fred Sinowatz, the artists' village Neumarkt an der Raab , where artists live and work. In 1972 Zotter was appointed the first director of the Burgenland State Gallery in Esterházy Palace.

Feri Zotter's urn was buried on March 2, 1987 in the family grave at the Neumarkt an der Raab cemetery.
