The Atlantic Paranormal Society ( TAPS ) is an organization based in Warwick , Rhode Island that investigates reported paranormal activity. It was founded in 1990 by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson . In 2004, the organization on the television series was Ghost Hunters , a successful weekly Reality - TV series of the TV channel Syfy .

History and goals

Hawes founded TAPS in 1990; It was originally called the Rhode Island Paranormal Society . In agreement with the former member Donna LaCroix, the team first met on Sundays in a coffee shop. After RIPS began investigating cases across New England, the name was changed to The Atlantic Paranormal Society . Wilson joined the team about two years later.

TAPS tries to help individuals or groups who believe they are surrounded by paranormal activity. They use electronic equipment that is said to be able to detect paranormal activity. The results are also used for our own research purposes. They also run their own website.

Books

Jason and Grant recently published their first book called Ghost Hunting . Most recently they published another book called Seeking Spirits . Another primary goal of TAPS is to make the rounds at college lectures and convention circles. As the event calendar on the website shows, different members are often present at such events. TAPS has started to hold so-called 'Meet TAPS' events, which can be found on the website's schedule. At these events, you can go ghost hunting with TAPS at famous locations for a fee .

Website

The TAPS website is also used to showcase some of the works in video and audio form that the group has collected.

Magazines

TAPS publishes a monthly magazine called TAPS Paramagazine , which contains member-written articles and information about the paranormal. Hawes said in an interview with the skeptical podcast Audiomartini that the magazines are mainly sold to fund the use of TAPS. The magazine itself states that it is a financial sponsor of TAPS. The average issue is approximately 39 pages long and was marketed in 2006 with a 'Behind the Scenes DVD' offering to new subscribers.

Radio broadcast

In early July 2006, TAPS began releasing podcasts called TAPS Para-Radio with Hawes and Wilson on a sporadic basis.

Beyond Reality Radio

Beyond Reality Radio is a radio talk show starring TAPS founders and Ghost Hunters stars Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson. Beyond Reality Radio started in April 2007 and runs on Saturdays from 7pm to 10pm on the WXLM radio station. On the show, Jason and Grant talk to guests about the paranormal and give listeners the opportunity to call and join the discussion during the show. The Beyond Reality Radio team consists of presenters Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes, producer Amy Bruni and studio producer Dave Gardiner. During the show or at any other time, one can visit the TAPS website and chat about the show and other topics. The chat room is monitored by owners and mods who keep the chat adult and family friendly.

The show is currently no longer broadcast and no date has yet been announced for a further broadcast.

Non-profit

At the beginning of 2007, TAPS described itself as a non-profit organization . Due to potential liability problems due to the inaccuracy of the description, the organization now describes itself as a free, voluntary organization .

Video game

On December 1, 2007, TAPS released a video game in association with Star Mountain Studios called Apparitions . Available online for PC and Mac, TAPS co-founder Grant Wilson claims that this game is just the start of a larger effort in the TAPS interactive media world in the future, although by then no other interactive media has appeared and the game has failed to meet its sales target.

Methods

TAPS sends a group of three to six members to conduct an eight to twelve hour long exam over one or more nights. Night vision, digital video and thermal imaging cameras , EMF detectors , digital thermometers and other equipment are used. Members often find natural explanations for the activities described. At the end, the team presents the results and expresses their opinion on whether the investigated location is " haunted " or not.

Well-known members

There are members of TAPS all over the world. TAPS also has famous members who volunteered in investigations for the television series Ghost Hunters . The following people have already participated in investigations:

TAPS family network

Many paranormal investigative groups support similar groups nationally and globally. TAPS invites paranormal organizations into its own network, which hand over their cases to one another. These organizations are part of the TAPS family network. Partner organizations put a TAPS Family Member banner on their websites, which refers to the TAPS website. A list of partner organizations can be found on the TAPS Family website.
