Michael "Mike" Gregory Mizanin (born October 8, 1980 in Parma , Ohio ) is an American wrestler , actor, and reality television actor. He currently appears under the ring name The Miz in the WWE .

His greatest sporting success so far is receiving the WWE Championship and receiving the WWE Intercontinental Championship eight times . Mizanin is married to former WWE Divas Champion Maryse . In 2018 their documentary soap Miz & Mrs. started together. Since 2013 Mizanin has played the leading role in the action film franchise The Marine .

Wrestling career

Beginnings

Mizanin made his wrestling debut in 2003 when he joined Ultimate Pro Wrestling .

WWE (since 2004)

Tough Enough and Developing Leagues (2004-2006)

In October 2004, he took part in the fourth season of the WWE casting show Tough Enough . Mizanin moved into the final, but was ultimately defeated by Daniel Puder. Because of his (on the part of the WWE as good) skills Vince McMahon offered him a development contract with the WWE, which Mizanin accepted. Mizanin first appeared as Mike Mizanin , later under his current ring name The Miz in the development promotion Deep South Wrestling , where he won his first title in December 2005 with the DSW Heavyweight Championship .

From January 2006, Mizanin joined Ohio Valley Wrestling , another development promotion of the WWE. There he got his own interview segment called Miz TV and won the OVW tag team title with Chris Cage .

Tag Team with John Morrison and ShoMiz (2006-2010)

In April 2006, Mizanin made his debut on the WWE main show SmackDown! , where he initially only appeared in meaningless matches. When the line-up changed on June 17, 2007, he was then sent to ECW . On November 16, 2007 he received the WWE Tag Team Championship from Matt Hardy and MVP while teaming with John Morrison . At the Great American Bash on July 20, 2008, they had to surrender the titles to Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins in a fatal four-way tag team match , with Jesse & Festus and Finlay & Hornswoggle also involved. At a house show on December 13, 2008, Mike Mizanin and John Morrison received the World Tag Team Championship from CM Punk and Kofi Kingston .

At WrestleMania 25 on April 5, 2009 they had to surrender the title in a union match to Carlito and Primo .

On the official WWE website, Mike Mizanin and John Morrison had a comedy talk show of sorts, The Dirt Sheet , for which the two received a Slammy Award.

On April 13, 2009, Mizanin was transferred to the Monday show Raw as a result of the WWE Draft , whereupon the team broke up with Morrison.

On October 5, 2009, he won the WWE United States Championship from Kofi Kingston there. At the major WWE Bragging Rights event on October 25, 2009, Mike Mizanin was able to defeat his former tag team partner John Morrison in one match.

On February 8, 2010, he and Big Show won the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship in a Triple Threat Tag Team match against previous D-Generation X champions ( Triple H & Shawn Michaels ) and against CM Punk & Luke Gallows .

In the first season of NXT , he had been a mentor to Daniel Bryan since February 23, 2010, and was responsible for him until he left.

On April 26, 2010, Mizanin and Big Show had to surrender their titles to The Hart Dynasty ( David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd ) in the course of a new storyline , which led to the simultaneous dissolution of the tag team.

In the RAW issue of May 17, 2010, Mike Mizanin had to cede his United States Championship to Bret Hart in Canada . On June 15, 2010, he was allowed in a Fatal Four-Way match to this item at the counter until then reigning champion R-Truth , Zack Ryder secure and John Morrison for the second time, before the title at Night of Champions on Daniel Bryan had to give up. On July 19, 2010, Mizanin won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match against Randy Orton , Edge , Chris Jericho , Evan Bourne , Mark Henry , Ted DiBiase and John Morrison, which won the RAW edition on November 22, 2010 WWE Championship led over Randy Orton.

On February 21, 2011, he and John Cena won the WWE Tag Team Championship from Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel . They lost the title a few moments later in a rematch. In the WrestleMania XXVII Main Event, The Miz successfully defended his WWE title against John Cena. After the match ended after a double count out, The Rock intervened. The match restarted and The Miz pinned John Cena after an attack by The Rock. Mizanin gave the WWE title at the PPV Extreme Rules 2011 on May 1, 2011 to John Cena in a steel cage match in which John Morrison was also involved.

In the May 23, 2011 edition of RAW, Mizanin split from his protégé Alex Riley, against whom he then feuded. From August 22 to November 21, 2011, he formed an alliance with R-Truth as The Awesome Truth . On November 21, 2011, The Miz attacked R-Truth, turning against his partner. From December 2011 to February 2012 he feuded unsuccessfully against WWE CHampion CM Punk.

Eight-time Intercontinental Champion (2012-2018)

In the 1000th edition of RAW on July 23, 2012, Mizanin first won the WWE Intercontinental Championship from Christian . He held the title until October 16, 2012, when he lost it to Kofi Kingston on the WWE Main Event recording . He won the title again in the course of the pre-show for Wrestlemania XXIX on April 7, 2013 by Wade Barrett , but the rematch and thus the title went back to the Englishman a day later on RAW. On June 30, 2014, he returned to WWE and was able to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the third time in a Battle Royal at Battleground 2014. A month later he lost the title to Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam, but was able to regain the title at the PPV Night of Champions and call himself a four-time champion. However, he lost the title to Dolph Ziggler in a rematch the following evening. On November 23, 2014, Mizanin and his then stunt double, Damien Sandow aka Damien Mizdow, won the Tag Team title of Goldust and Stardust at the Survivor Series .

On December 29, 2014, they lost the title to Jimmy and Jey Uso . On April 4, 2016, The Miz became Intercontinental Champion again by defeating Zack Ryder at RAW. At No Mercy 2016 he had to cede his title to Dolph Ziggler . At the SmackDown edition on November 15, 2016, he was able to regain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. On January 3, 2017 at SmackDown, he lost the title to Dean Ambrose .

He then feuded with his wife Maryse Mizanin against John Cena and Nikki Bella. This feud ended in a mixed tag team match at WrestleMania 33, won by John Cena and Nikki Bella.

She switched to Raw at the Superstar Shakeup on April 10, 2017. On June 4, 2017 at Extreme Rules , he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the seventh time after taking the title back from Dean Ambrose. On November 20, 2017, Roman Reigns defeated The Miz on Raw to become the new Intercontinental Champion. On January 22, 2018, The Miz won the title back on Raw before losing the WrestleMania 34 title to Seth Rollins in a triple threat match that included Finn Bálor .

Feuds against Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon (since 2018)

At the Superstar Shakeup on April 16, 2018, she switched to SmackDown Live. In the summer of 2018, The Miz picked up a feud against Daniel Bryan. The Miz defeated Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam in August 2018. In a match at Super-ShowDown in Melbourne, Australia, Daniel Bryan finally defeated The Miz and was promised a WWE title match. At the end of 2018, The Miz urged Shane McMahon to form a tag team with him. At the Royal Rumble 2019 Miz and McMahon won the SmackDown Tag Team titles from Cesaro and Sheamus. 21 days later at the PPV Elimination Chamber they lost the title to the Usos. After a lost rematch at the PPV Fastlane, Shane attacked McMahon Miz. This was followed by a feud that resulted in a match at WrestleMania 35, which Shane McMahon happily won.

As part of the 2019 Superstar Shake-Up, Miz switched from SmackDown to Raw on April 15, 2019 . He continued his feud against Shane by attacking him after his move. So there was a steel cage match at Money in the Bank , which McMahon won.

As part of the WWE Draft, Miz switched from Raw to SmackDown on October 14, 2019 . On February 27, 2020, he and John Morrison won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship for the second time. For this, they defeated The New Day Kofi Kingston and Big E .

Outside of wrestling

Mike Mizanin had his first TV appearance in 2001 as one of seven participants in the US show " The Real World: Back to New York " , of which he was a member for four seasons. He then had appearances on the TV shows "The Gauntlet" , "The Inferno" , and "Battle of the Network Reality Stars" .

2006 guest appearance on the series Psych Season 6 Episode 12.

In 2013 he starred in the action film The Marine 3: Homefront . In the same year he was also granted the lead role in the action comedy Christmas Bounty . In 2014 he slipped back into the role of former Marine Sergeant Jake Carter in The Marine 4: Moving Target . In 2017 he starred in The Marine 5: Battleground with WWE Superstars Bo Dallas , Heath Slater , Curtis Axel , Naomi and Maryse Ouellet Mizanin . The Marine 6 followed in 2018 : Close Quarters .

In the movie My WWE Main Event (2020), The Miz had a smaller role as tournament director.
