The Legends of the Albae: Gerechter Zorn is a fantasy novel by the German writer Markus Heitz , which was published by Piper-Verlag in German-speaking countries at the end of April 2009 . The novel had four sequels.

Relation to the series of novels Die Zwerge

The legends of the Albae: Righteous Wrath is a prehistory of the first part of the novel series The Dwarfs . In contrast to the dwarf pentalogy, the protagonists are not dwarfs, but the characters "Sinthoras" and "Caphalor", two Albae, bloodthirsty antagonists from the first Part of the dwarf series. The action is accordingly described from their point of view, their way of thinking and their worldview.

The plot begins a solar cycle (corresponds to one year) before the invasion of the stone gateway by the Albae and its allies, whereby it should be noted that this invasion is shown again from the Albae's point of view at the end of the storyline. In the course of the plot and as chapter introductions, events or short prehistory are also described, which fathom some events from the dwarf novels.

action

Both politically and privately hostile Albae Sinthoras and Caphalor are sent on a journey by the rulers - the so-called "Inextinguishable" - of the Albae empire "Dsôn Faïmon" to win a powerful demon as an ally for their people . The spirit being is supposed to help them in the attack on "Tark Draan", the "Safe Land".

Sinthora's political goal and that of the “comets”, his allies, is the expansion of the Albian Empire. They believe that ruling all other races will minimize the threat to the Albae Empire. Caphalor and his allies, the “stars”, however, want to limit themselves to the defense of the empire and are strictly against expansion.

Even before the start of the journey together, Sinthoras betrays his opponent Caphalor and, contrary to the agreed starting time, rides earlier in order to achieve the glory for himself. When Caphalor, angry, sets off alone to follow Sinthoras, he meets Raleeha, the pretty but blind slave of Sinthoras. From her he learns that she has escaped her captivity out of blind love because she wanted to follow her master. Caphalor tries to find out as much as possible about his opponent through them and forces Raleeha to accompany him. To find the demon, the travelers have to cross the realm of the "Fflecx". These people are a race of vicious, poisonous gnomes . When trying to pass the gnome kingdom, Raleeha and the two Albae are captured by the Fflecx and their king is brought before them together. In return, for passing through his country, he demands that the two Albae bring back his stolen crown and a parchment from the dwarf-like creature "Gålran Zhadar", as well as his head. As a safeguard, he poisons them and tells them that they will not receive the antidote until they return successfully. Otherwise the poison would kill them within a month.

The Albae and the slave set off together to Gålran Zhadar in order to be freed from the poison as quickly as possible. On the way, Sinthoras gives Caphalor Raleeha out of anger. In addition, the companions meet an "obboona". The Obboona are a human-like people who hunt and skin the Albae to clothe themselves in their skin. The obboona claims to know how to get to the castle of Gålran Zhadar. The Albae force them to help them and take the parchment and the crown into their possession, but cannot take the head of Gålran Zhadar with them in their hasty escape.

Sinthoras and Caphalor part ways again: Since Sinthoras doubts that the king of the Fflecx will hand over the antidote because of the missing head, he leaves the group and goes on his own in search of the demon. At first he fails to win the demons for the goals of the Albae. However, when he breaks a vial stolen from Gålran Zhadar and he sings to the demon, the spirit is transformed in a mysterious way. He is suddenly ready to help the Alb, if it reports back in a long time. He also removes the poison from Sinthoras' body.

Caphalor, however, still plans to return to the King of the Fflecx with Raleeha and the insane Obboona named Karjuna. On the way there, they are attacked by sinks, "halfway intelligent" beasts. It turns out that these are subject to the violence of Karjuna, which Caphalor in their madness forces that he swears to her that he will be her husband. After Caphalor complies with their demands and promises to return, he continues with Raleeha on the journey to the King of the Fflecx. Caphalor hands him the crown and the parchment, but because of the missing head, the king does not want to give up the antidote. Caphalor and Raleeha set off to bring Raleeha safely to Dsôn Faïmon, as the Alb had discovered their qualities during the journey, while he himself wants to return from there and kill the King of the Fflecx and the Obboona in revenge. For him, his fatal fate is sealed.

On the journey, Caphalor suffers a fit of weakness caused by the poison of the Fflecx and only escapes death when his Albian friend Aïsolon finds him and secretly brings him back to Dsôn Faïmon. There he is healed by his daughter Tarlesa. Immediately, however, Caphalor sets off again to search for the demon, because he thinks that Sinthoras must have died due to the poisoning.

Meanwhile, Raleeha is treated by the healing Tarlesa. The healer succeeds in enabling the regeneration of Raleeha's right eyeball. Little by little, the young woman regains her eyesight on the treated eye, which she keeps a secret.

On the way to becoming a demon, Caphalor meets Sinthoras, whom he blackmailed for sharing the pact with the demon with him. Back in the realm of the Albae, the two are assigned by the Inextinguishers to negotiate with the orcs, trolls, barbarians and other creatures in order to raise a joint army for the attack on the salvaged land. They manage to convince the majority of the barbarians, trolls and orcs, in return they get their own empires in the safe land. Farron Lotor, the most powerful of the barbarian princes, also has to submit to the Albae, as they use his sister Raleeha as leverage against him.

During the preparations, the Obboona appears with a large army of "Srink" and gives Caphalor the ultimatum to take her as a companion. When she reveals to him that she has murdered his family, Caphalor kills them and, deprived of his courage to live, throws himself into the fight against the Srink alone. Contrary to expectations, however, he survived the battle because his new allies were at his side. At this point, even Sinthoras and Caphalor have made peace. Since Tarlesa was also killed by the obboona, it is no longer known to anyone that the slave has regained her sight in one eye.

In the further course of the plot, Gålran Zhadar, who was believed to be dead, joins the Albae, who reports that he has smuggled a spy into the dwarves, the guardians of the boundaries of the salvaged land. In return for control over the spy, he asked to be allowed to settle in "Phondrasôn", the subterranean realm of the Albae.

Sinthoras has now found a companion, Timanris, who takes the abandoned Raleeha into her home. The one-eyed woman, believed to be blind, shows an artistic talent that is equal to that of the Albae. Raleeha, who is also in love with Sinthoras, suddenly attacks Timanris out of jealousy and injures her seriously. Since she is no longer able to speak due to her injuries, the one-eyed man succeeds in depicting the events as an accident.

Raleeha then leaves Dsôn and follows her master out of love for the battlefield. She writes a letter which she translates into a letter from Timanris and Sinthoras says it was Timanri's last will before she died. The letter says, among other things, that Raleeha was to become Sinthora's new companion. Caphalor sees through Raleeha's ruse, but does nothing about it.

At the end of the book, the forces of Generals Caphalor and Sinthoras lead their attack on the Salvaged Land. With the help of the demon and the spy, it is possible to take the stone gateway and invade the safe land. Raleeha follows her master again and when Sinthoras does not notice an approaching ax during the battle, the one-eyed woman throws herself, filled with feelings of guilt and blind love, into the trajectory of the ax and thus finds her tragic end.

During the fight it turns out that the demon does not think of being at the service of the Albae, but conversely uses the Albae and its entourage for his own purposes. Even Sinthoras bows before the demon when he demands it from all.

Meanwhile, the Gålran Zhadar goes into the Black Gorge to found a new empire and to escape the power of the demon.
