Die Perlen are a German minimal electro and electroclash music group that was founded in April 2000 in Nuremberg .

history

The group was founded in 2000 as a hobby project "Pearls before the Sows". Since a group of this name already existed, the duo was quickly renamed "Die Perlen". After several demo recordings had been released for years , the first EP Gedankenzzüge followed in 2004 and the debut album Telektroponk in 2006 . The name of the first album is supposed to describe the music of Die Perlen: Electropop, mixed with punk and influences from Chiptune (the band sometimes uses an Atari home computer to generate the sound ) and Neuer Deutscher Welle .

After the first releases were all self-distributed, the albums were released under the Fire Zone label . On the album Szenewechsel , on which, according to their own statement, the sound is much more mature, the music group Welle: Erdball mit is on one piece ( We are listening to ) and the French rock group Joy Disaster on two others . Another collaboration with Welle: Erdball is on their maxi CD Ich bin aus Plastik (2008).

In 2003 Die Perlen won the band competition "Projekt 19" of the radio show Zündfunk of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and a collaboration with Mario Thaler, the producer of The Notwist . In 2009 Die Perlen released the EP City . This was released as a limited 10 "vinyl EP. The 7" vinyl single Nur tote Männer are beautiful was also released in 2009 . On the A side, this offers the cover version or reinterpretation of the wave: globe song Nur dead women are beautiful . The B-side of the single, limited to 500 copies, contains the song alone in the Funkhaus , a cooperation between the groups Die Perlen, Welle: Erdball, Sonnenschandt and Hertzinfarkt, which appear here as the project Die Funkhausgruppe .

For the 10th anniversary of the band, a compilation was released at the end of November 2009 , the composition of which the fans of Die Perlen had decided.

In 2011 the album Mono-Poly was released under the Funkhausgruppe as part of the band cooperation . After a 3-year hiatus, Die Perlen released the album back in 2012 . It rose to number 4 in the German Alternative Charts and stayed there for a few weeks. In Italy the album reached number 1 in the alternative charts. All in all, it combines opposing sounds ( C64 with electric guitar, strings, etc.). Originally it was planned back as a double album. However, it was decided to bring only some of the new pieces onto the album. Some of the remaining pieces were then released in 2013 as EP Mein right Platz ist leer . In contrast to the album, the track of the same name is electronic.

In 2015 Katja Hah took a baby break. The band put seven previously unpublished pieces on the internet as a studio session in the form of individual video clips every month. The band performed at individual concerts, including playing on the Welle: Erdball Hörerclubtreffen in 2016, where they performed a few pieces from the early days.

In the period from 2016 to 2017 Ferdinand Ess devoted himself to the band "Hell-O". The pearls disbanded at the end of 2017, an official announcement took place in 2018. Katja Hah has been active in the band "Kaufkraft" since then.
