The city designers (long and short names in their own spelling: Die STADTGESTALTER) are a local political group of voters of political but non-party citizens from Bochum and Wattenscheid . It was founded on January 23, 2014 in Bochum. The city planners advocate more citizen participation. In line with their self-image, it is the goal of the electoral community to develop Bochum and Wattenscheid into a more livable place.

Accordingly, the electoral group brings its own ideas and suggestions for urban development into urban politics. Among other things, the city designers made a proposal for a Bochum cable car network, a market hall for Bochum city center, a central swimming pool for Bochum and Wattenscheid, a park on the roofs of the city center and a new city center square (Propstei-Platz).

For the 2014 council election, the city designers presented an election program with the core topics of education, debt-free city, citizens & politics, the Ruhr Metropolis, quality of life, economic development and city identity.

Election results

Four months after its founding, the city designers ran for the first time in the municipal elections in Bochum on April 25, 2014 and were elected by 1,563 citizens.

Volker Steude has been a member of the Bochum City Council since 2014 . The city designers form a parliamentary group in the city council together with the FDP .

Specialty

Candidates running for city designers in local elections do not have to be members of the electoral group. However, you may not belong to any party. All members of the electoral group as well as citizens who are not members of the electoral group can vote for the nomination of candidates for the local elections.
