The Old Mill is a 1937 American animated short film directed by Wilfred Jackson and Graham Heid .

action

A spider is slowly spinning its web, and there is an old, dilapidated mill near a small pond at dusk. A bird is brooding on a water wheel inside the mill and is being fed by its partner, mice are preparing for the night, a pair of lovebirds is sitting in the window and an owl is sleeping. The bats under the roof wake up yawning and fly into the night. The water lilies close on the pond in front of the mill , frogs gather for the evening concert, and fireflies rise.

The frogs suddenly jump into the pond when a thunderstorm is on the horizon. It starts to rain and storms, part of the mill roof is covered. The eagle owl is shaken in the mill and hastily seeks protection from the rain. The bird sees its nest in danger when the water wheel, which is fixed with a rope, suddenly begins to turn. Since the nest was created exactly in a wheel tooth recess, there is a risk of losing the three bird eggs, but luckily the tooth for the nest recess is missing. Still - the mice are frightened, the eagle owl gets wet when collected water pours over it, the lovebirds move closer together, and almost the entire mill collapses under the storm, which however subsides as suddenly as it started. The mill stops skewed.

It meets. The bats return to the mill, hang themselves under the roof and go to sleep. The eagle owl is looking for a new place to sleep. The mice calm down. Three baby birds have hatched from the eggs and are looked after by their parents. The destroyed cobweb shimmers in the morning light.
