The strange story of Mr. C. (orig. The Shrinking Man ) is a science fiction novel published in 1956 by the American writer Richard Matheson . Werner Gronwald created the first German-language transmission . It was published in 1960 under the title The incredible story of Mister C. by Heyne Verlag , Munich .

Mr. Scott Carey and his wife take a normal boat trip on the sea. When Scott's wife goes below deck, a mysterious fog covers Scott.

After the incident, he continued to live his normal life, but then began to notice changes.

At first his clothes got too big for him. When he is still getting smaller, he hopes for medical help. Doctors are puzzled and there is nothing they can do to reverse the shrinkage.

Scott's wife is horrified and does everything she can to help him. Scott's condition is now becoming a target of curious people and the media. His married life is also put to the test. As it continues to shrink, even the house cat becomes scary, even a danger.

The book was filmed in 1957 by Jack Arnold under the title The Incredible Shrinking Man ( The Incredible Story of Mr. C. ). The author wrote the script himself.
