Tuesdays at Morrie's

Tuesdays at Morrie is the title of a 1997 book by Mitch Albom ; the German translation by Angelika Bardeleben was published in 1998. The book was used in 1999 as a template for the film of the same name with Hank Azaria and Jack Lemmon .

The book is based on the true story of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, sociology professor Morrie Schwartz and his relationship with his student Mitch Albom. Both the book and the film depict the life lessons Albom learns from his dying professor.

Mitch Albom is a successful sports writer and has left his college years well behind when he watches a television interview with his former sociology professor and mentor Morrie Schwartz. He learns that Morrie is sick with the deadly disease ALS . When he realizes that his old friend doesn't have much longer to live, he decides to visit him. He travels from Detroit to Newton every Tuesday until Schwartz dies. At every meeting he learns Schwartz's simple lessons for a happy life, which he documents for the book.
