Mitch Albom
Mitchell "Mitch" David Albom (born May 23, 1958 in Trenton , New Jersey , USA ) is an American author , sports journalist for the Detroit Free Press , radio presenter and television commentator.
Life
Albom wrote the novel Tuesdays at Morrie's (1998) , which was very successful in America . The book sold exceptionally well after being featured by Oprah Winfrey at Oprah's Book Club . The television adaptation with Hank Azaria and Jack Lemmon was the most watched television film in 1999 in the USA and received four emmies .
His novel The Five People You Meet in Heaven (2005) was also a New York Times , however, the critics as too sentimental -Bestseller panned have. This novel was also made into a film for US television with Jon Voight , Ellen Burstyn , Michael Imperioli and Jeff Daniels . Other novels are Just a Day (2006), A Day with You (2008) and "The Miracle of Coldwater" (2013).
After his experience with Morrie Schwartz , he started an aid organization called "A Time to Help". Every month the group runs a project that helps the Detroit people. So far, aid projects for homeless shelters, soup kitchens, old people's homes and orphanages have been carried out. Albom and his radio host, Ken Brown, are leading the projects and trying to use A Time to Help as a catalyst for more volunteering.
Mitch Albom appears regularly in television broadcasts Sports Reporters and SportsCenter from ESPN on. His radio show is broadcast by WJR in Detroit.
Albom is a member of a rock band called The Rock Bottom Remainders . All members of the band are writers. He studied at Brandeis University and Columbia University . Before becoming a journalist, he was an amateur boxer, night club singer and pianist.
In 2011 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Michigan State University .
