Aeschlen ob Gunten is a village in the municipality of Sigriswil , on the right bank of Lake Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . It is about 760 m above sea level. M. and with about 350 inhabitants it is one of the smaller places in the municipality.
location
Nestled between two deep gorges, the Oertlischlucht in the west and the Gumischlucht in the east, the place is located on a natural south-facing terrace above Lake Thun. It is about 1 km to Sigriswil in the southeast and Tschingel in the east. Schwanden is 2.5 km to the northeast and Oberhofen am Thunersee on the lakeshore is 2 km away.
Tourism, transport
Thanks to its location with a view of the lake and the mountains of the Bernese Alps and its relative proximity to the city of Thun , Aeschlen ob Gunten is attractive to tourists. The place is ideal as a starting point for various hikes in the vicinity. In winter you can reach the Schwanden-Sigriswil ski area in 10 minutes. Public transport is handled by the STI bus service, which connects the town with Thun.
Festivals and clubs
- Second January is an annual taking place on January 2 custom which is cultivated for centuries. Disguised young men go from house to house collecting dignity and money. In the evening there is a celebration with the New Year's parties. A week later, what is collected is eaten and drunk together with single women.
