Dieri

The Dieri are an Aboriginal tribe and they also form their own language community. The tribe live in the desert area of South Australia , which includes the Simpson Desert , Strzelecki Desert and Tirari Desert . They live along the Cooper River to eastern Lake Eyre .

Land law

The Dieri have had ownership of 87,733 square kilometers of land since 1997, which is enshrined in a legal act in the Dieri Native Title Claim. The area owned by the Dieri extends from the east of Lake Eyre to the north to Muloorina to the Warburton River and to the east of Killalapaninna. It includes the landmarks of Cooper Creek and Leigh Creek, Lake Howitt, Lake Hope, Lake Gregory, and Clayton River.

Alternative names

Alternative names for the Dieri are: Diari, Diyeri, Dieyerie, Deerie, Dayerrie, Dthee-eri Kunari near Cooper Creek, Koonarie, Wongkadieri near Arabana, Tiari (near the southern Arrernte ) Urrominna, Kujani, Tirari and Diyari.
