life and work

Traveling blues

Gasde is the founder of the blues band Traveling Blues , which he led for over twenty years. When Traveling Blues was founded in Eisenach at the beginning of 1974, the cast included the musicians Christoph Martin Neumann, Mike Ullrich, Hans Peter Beck and Rudolf Schmidt in addition to Gasde. 1975 played Traveling Blues at the 1st Thuringian Blues Festival in front of 3,000 spectators. From 1980, Rudolf Schmidt, Thomas Kögel, Erich Fenske and Karl Aschenbach were part of the cast alongside Gasde. Even Alexander Blume was one of the band for a time as a pianist. Traveling Blues toured the GDR for 25 years and, after the fall of the Wall, also through the Federal Republic of Germany . Abroad there were performances in Cracow and Slaný . With the death of the pianist and singer Erich Fenske in 1999 Traveling Blues dissolved. Since 2010 Traveling Blues has been touring Germany again with Dieter Gasde, with singer Kate Daniels as a guest cast. The current line-up includes Christoph Gottwald, Frank Müller, Boris Tautorat and Andreas Geyer (from Pro Art ).

More bands

During his Traveling Blues membership since the 1980s, Gasde was and is also active in various other bands. He performed with Christoph Martin Nemann as a duo bluesong , was a member of Stephan Diestelmann's folk blues band, the jazz and funk band Prima Klima and the Alexander Blume quartet . Gasde has been to concerts in the People's Republic of Poland and the ČSSR . From 1998 to 2002 Gasde was a guest soloist with the Thomas Stelzer Trio and the Dresden band Bloody Rhythm Fingers . Gasde is the founder of the band Gumbolaya . It focuses on New Orleans funk, blues and soul and, in addition to Gasde, consists of Wolfgang Leyk, Christoph Gottwald, Andi Geyer and Frank Müller. Together with Hendrik Kleditz, Gasde founded the Duo Good News in 1989 , in which he sings and plays the harmonica, saxophone, flute and other instruments. Good News also appeared in Switzerland, Hungary and Croatia. The singer and guitarist Alex Leonard Exson has been a guest soloist for Good News since 2003 . Gasde and Exson also perform in pairs. Press review

Commentary on Gasde's importance for the blues in Thuringia

“The seventies brought another reforestation of the bluesy undergrowth. The seedlings were called Knuff, Ergo, Frachthof, Pro Art and Traveling Blues, their keepers were Meinhardt Prkno, Jürgen Postel, Waldemar "Waldi" Weiz, Walter and Andreas Geyer, Christoph Martin Neumann, Mike Ulrich and Dieter Gasde. "

CD review for Good News and Friends

“The blues definitely comes from Thuringia. Anyone who has been skeptical of this truth up to now has the opportunity to check their opinion with this CD. Admittedly, the compositions all bear foreign names from a copyright point of view, but only the Thuringian interpretation gives them true greatness. There are experts at work who only ignoramuses can blame for replaying. You already notice after the first notes that the blues has to come from the core of the musician in order to achieve such convincing quality. On the blues authenticity scale, which is irritatingly measured not in shades of blue but in degrees of blackness, both Good News , consisting of Dieter Gasde and Hendrik Kleditz, as well as and Friends , that is Wolfgang Leyk, Christoph Gottwald, Frank Müller and Rudolf Schmidt, achieve considerable darkness . This becomes clear, among other things, in the looseness and enthusiasm with which the participants act. And how better to document such ease than in the present version. You can't hear a clean, high-gloss studio production, rather the takes were recorded in several studio sessions in the solid-analog AGM studio in Eisenach. The result is convincing: the blues definitely comes from Thuringia ... "

Concert with Good News in Eschwege on October 21, 2011

“And then there was Dieter Gasde: the soul of the group, so to speak. Because not only with his amazing multi-instrumental skills - with blues harp, saxophone, flute and drums - he created the best atmosphere in the audience: He was also in the best musical mood with his humorous comments and his singing "

- Francisco Pujiula : Great fun shared

Concert in Eisenach on December 31, 2011

"Unlike in the previous year, it was not the pianist that was in the foreground, but Dieter Gasde in particular knew how to set accents again and again with his distinctive voice and the sophisticated play on the harmonica and saxophone."

Concert in Öhringen on January 25, 2013

“Dieter Gasde is one of those music artists who can elicit interesting sounds from almost any object. A simple glass of water is enough for the Eisenacher to produce horn-like tones, or an " NVA speaking capsule", which is a small megaphone from the blessed GDR times and which he converts into a quasi-trombone after he has responded to earlier border control calls remembered. [...] Bandleader Gasde also plays the tenor saxophone, flute and harmonica - and he is also responsible for the percussion. For this he uses a cajon and a snare drum as drums, but sometimes, for example in BB Kings Let the good times roll , uses a washboard with a saucepan screwed on. He plays some of this almost at the same time, and a self-made frame in front of his mouth helps him to do this, to which a mouthpiece, harp and horn are attached. [...] On top of that, Gasde is a good singer who is also familiar with scat singing. "

- Michael Dignal : Soud machine from GDR times is good for the blues , in: unknown newspaper, January 2013

Concert in Altleiningen on July 13, 2013

“Gasde is a musical phenomenon that is second to none. On the one hand, the man plays the drums in a very unusual combination. He is sitting on a cajon , a wooden box that has increasingly found its way into the music scene as a percussion instrument in recent years. But he operates the box with the pedal, while at the same time playing the flute or saxophone. If he doesn't pick up one of his woodwind instruments, then he may be using the harmonica or using his voice to imitate the sound of brass. "
