Dieter Gruner (* 1953 in Düsseldorf ) is a German journalist and author , grandson of the Bad Arols pedagogue, genealogist and local researcher Robert Wetekam .

Life

After graduating from the CJD - Internat Schloss Oberurff in Bad Arolsen launched Gruner his career in journalism as a freelancer in the local offices of the Westfälische Rundschau in Lüdenscheid and Oberhessische Presse (OP) in Marburg. 1977/78 he completed a newspaper traineeship in the editorial offices of the OP and the Giessener Anzeiger. In 1979 he took over the management of the Stadtallendorf OR editorial team. During this time Gruner uncovered the biggest environmental scandal in Hesse to date: residues from the explosives industry of the Second World War polluted the drinking water of the entire Upper and Central Hesse region. Around a thousand tons of old armaments were stored on Stadtallendorf properties and had to be disposed of. According to the Ministry of the Environment in Wiesbaden, the renovation cost 167 million euros. On the basis of this explosive legacy from the last world war, Gruner's first novel City on Hell was created .

In 1981 Gruner was elected press officer for the Märkischer Kreis in Altena, later Lüdenscheid. Under his leadership, the public relations department was expanded to include tourism. At the same time, Gruner took over the management of the Märkisches Sauerland leisure and tourism association. He was one of the founders of the “ Festspiele Balver Höhle ” cultural association , for whose press work he was responsible. In cooperation with the media center of the Märkischer Kreis, several video film productions were created, for which the district press officer had written and directed the scripts.

In 1992, Gruner and Peter Richter, a graduate engineer from Iserlohn, founded a multimedia company in Lüdenscheid that specialized in film productions for industry and municipalities, websites and later software development. At the same time he worked as a freelance journalist, reporter and presenter for the television and radio studios of West German Broadcasting in Cologne, Dortmund and Siegen as well as other ARD broadcasters.

From 1995 Gruner belonged first to the operating company, then to the broadcasting association of Radio MK in Iserlohn. He also held a council mandate in Lüdenscheid until 2002. Gruner was involved in the SME and business association, which he chaired at city (Lüdenscheid), district (Märkischer Kreis) and district (Sauer- / Siegerland) level. His voluntary work also included the Johanniter Accident Aid: Gruner initially worked as a local representative for the Johanniter in Lüdenscheid, then as a board member of the South Westphalia regional association. Until 2015 he worked as an honorary judge at the Cologne Regional Court .

Gruner is married to the WDR radio journalist Ulrike Gruner (two children) and now lives as a book author in Cologne.
