Dieter Hackfort

Dieter Hackfort (born November 20, 1951 in Kierspe ) is a German sports psychologist and taught until 2018 as a professor at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich in the Faculty of Human Sciences, Institute for Sports Science.

academic career

After studying sports science, education and psychology at the German Sport University in Cologne and at the University of Cologne, he worked as a research assistant at the Psychological Institute of the German Sport University under the direction of Jürgen R. Nitsch, where he worked on theory and Diagnosis of sport-related anxiety was obtained in 1983. The research on the topic of "stress and sporting action" led in 1984 to the habilitation and venia legendi for sport science with a focus on sport psychology. At the instigation of Charles D. Spielberger, Hackfort was invited to a visiting professorship at the Center for Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology at the University of South Florida (Tampa, USA) in 1985 and was appointed to a professorship in sports science at the Institute for Sports and Sports Science at Heidelberg University in 1986. In 1991 he moved to the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich, where he was responsible for the establishment of the Institute for Sport Science and Sport at the Professorship for Sport Psychology and Sport Education. During a leave of absence between 2004 and 2010, he developed and implemented a Sports Science Program as Director at Qatar University and, as Dean of Aspire, was entrusted with the conception and development of the Academy for Sports Excellence in Doha.

Act

In research, Hackfort focuses on the development and methodical (research, test and intervention / training methodical) design of an action-theoretical perspective with functional orientation on the analysis and influencing of the psychological action regulation and an application-related reference to the development of a mental test and training systems (MTTS), performance enhancement management and mental fitness. In the scientific community, he is nationally chairman of the working group for sport psychology (asp), member of the board of directors of the Federal Institute for Sport Science and internationally as a long-standing member of the managing council of the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP) and its president from 2005 to 2009 as well as a member emerged in the International Council for Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE). For the development of the subject he has nationally and internationally u. a. also as co-editor (together with Jürgen R. Nitsch) of the first series of sport psychology publications in Germany: Subject: Psychology and Sport (bps; ISSN 0172-5319) contributed, in which in 25 years between 1978 and 2002 a total of 61 monographs and edited volumes with more than 1000 individual articles by more than 700 authors have appeared, as well as founder and 12 years as co-editor-in-chief (from 1996 to 2007 together with Gershon Tenenbaum) of the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology (IJSEP). In addition to his scientific activities, Hackfort has always provided advice in high-performance sport for young competitive athletes, Olympic athletes in various sports and professional athletes, etc. a.
