Dieter Sure

Dieter Klar (born September 9, 1937 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German photographer and photojournalist.

Life

Training and work as a photographer

Dieter Klar was born as the son of Willi and Lilli Klar in Frankfurt am Main. After training as a photographer, he worked as an industrial and advertising photographer. In 1958 he went to Helsinki as a fashion photographer, but was drafted into military service in Buxtehude a year later.

During this time he worked as an industrial photographer and photographed fashion in Paris. In between he worked in the Kaufhof headquarters in Cologne for the advertising department. In 1965 he became a member of the Association of Visual Artists (BBK) and exhibited photographic works in Germany and abroad. He also photographed kitsch postcards, pin-ups and kitsch calendars for American publishers.

Dieter Klar accepted the offer from the German Press Agency (dpa) to work as a photo reporter . Dieter Klar worked for dpa for 17 years. Dieter Klar lives in Buxtehude. He is married to Rudi Carrell's eldest daughter and has four children.

Activity as a producer and director

In 1985 Dieter Klar switched to television. Together with Annemieke Kesselaar, he produced programs such as “Caution, children in the box” and reports from all over the world (TV production “Bildermühle”). He worked as a director and producer for WDR, RTL, ARD and SAT1.

In August 2005 Dieter Klar staged the historical play “Royal Night” on St. Petriplatz in Buxtehude . It was a staged reading and concert. In August 2006 a new production of the “Royal Night” followed.

From 2006 to 2008 Dieter Klar produced the Internet television BuxTV, satirical contributions to regional and national events.

Cultural forum at the harbor

In the side wing of the former painting school, a listed factory building from the mid-19th century owned by the city, the Kulturforum am Hafen has been located since October 31, 2008 . Dieter Klar was involved in the planning and renovation phase of the house in an advisory capacity and has been President of the Kulturforum am Hafen since then.

International Music festival Buxtehude, Altes Land, Harburg

The International Music festival Buxtehude, Altes Land, Harburg has been taking place annually since summer 2010. Since the sixth edition in 2015, the “Speicher am Kaufhauskanal” in Hamburg-Harburg, which has existed since 1827, has been added as a new venue.

The festival was founded by the Chinese pianist Haiou Zhang and the President of the Kulturforum am Hafen, Dieter Klar. The producer is Dieter Klar, Haiou Zhang is the musical director and Dieter Klar and Haiou Zhang share the overall artistic direction.

Young talents from home and abroad come to Buxtehude and the Alte Land to present classical music over several days and at changing venues.

The festival includes schools in the city of Buxtehude in the concept. The idea is to bring the internationally successful artists closer to a young audience. School concerts have been held every year since the beginning of the festival. a. in the primary school Buxtehude-Altkloster, in the Buxtehude school center south. Every year, more than 500 music-loving pupils take part in the public rehearsals on the stage of the Halepaghen School.

As part of the festival, the “Buxtehude Young Artist Award” has been presented to young talented artists since 2015. The 2015 prize winner was cellist Nina Cromm.

1997-2002 and 1998-2003 The traveling exhibition with photographs by Willi Klar, Dieter Klar and Reto Klar was created in collaboration with the Goethe Institute under the title “Germany since 1945” . The exhibition was shown worldwide in two runs from 1997 to 2002 and 1998 to 2003.

Reflections. 40 places-20 names

June 26th, 2009 - May 31st, 2011. Afterwards touring exhibition Another exhibition was “Reflections. 40 places - 20 names. Photographs from Germany ” by Dieter and Reto Klar; Two decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the two photographers embarked on a journey of discovery from 2007 to 2009 through 40 cities and villages of the same name in East and West Germany, including people living there. The exhibition was shown in the House of History in Bonn from June 26, 2009 to May 31, 2011. Afterwards traveling exhibition.

In addition, parts of the “Spiegelungen” exhibition were integrated into the worldwide traveling exhibition “Germany for Beginners” , a joint project of the Goethe Institute and the Federal Agency for Civic Education on the subject of 60 years of the Federal Republic.
