Dieter Leicht

Dieter Leicht (* in the 20th century) is a former German wheelchair fencer.

Career

Dieter Leicht is severely disabled. Because of his handicap, he is dependent on a wheelchair. Since he wanted to do competitive sports despite this severe handicap, he decided to do wheelchair fencing . He practiced this sport so well with both the rapier and the foil that he was soon appointed to the German national handicapped team for international competitions. He then took part in the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul with the German disabled fencing team. With the German epee team, he won a gold medal in the line-up of Dieter Leicht, Uwe Bartmann and Wolfgang Lipinski . At the 1992 Summer Paralympics he was again a member of the German team. With the epee team made up of Leicht, Bartmann, Lipinski and Udo Schwarz , the team reached second place and won the silver medal. He was also successful in foil team fencing: in the line-up of Wolfgang Kempf , Maximilian Miller , Günter Spieß and Dieter Leicht, he and the foil team took third place and won the bronze medal.

For winning a medal in 1992, Dieter Leicht and his teammates were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker on June 23, 1993 .
