Dieter Reinl
Dieter Reinl (* 1960 in Rosenheim ) is a German diplomat . He has been ambassador to Burundi since August 2019 .
career
After graduating from high school, Reinl did military service from 1979 to 1980 and then studied until 1983 at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in the field of foreign affairs. From 1983 to 1985 he worked in the central department of the Foreign Office . He then served at the German Embassy in Warsaw , where he the fall of the Wall in Berlin was experiencing. At the end of 1989 Reinl moved to the Consulate General in Istanbul .
From 1994 to 1999 Reinl completed his training for the higher foreign service and, after a brief assignment in the office of the state secretaries, worked in the cultural department of the Foreign Office from 1999 to 2000.
Between 2000 and 2002 Reinl took parental leave. This was followed by four years at the embassy in Paris , before he returned to the Foreign Office in 2006, where he initially worked in the European department and from 2008 as head of the emergency aid department for Germans abroad.
From 2012 to 2015 Reinl was head of the cultural department at the embassy in Warsaw, then on the planning staff of the Foreign Office as head of strategic communication and networking with civil society and from 2016 head of the foreign policy network in Germany.
In August 2019 he was sent as an ambassador to Burundi , based in Bujumbura .
