Dieter Schiffmann

Dieter Schiffmann (born June 30, 1948 in Frankenthal ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1967, Schiffmann studied history, geography and political science at the University of Mannheim . From 1974 to 1987 he was a research assistant at the University of Mannheim and received his doctorate in 1981. From 2005 to 2013 he was head of the state center for political education in Rhineland-Palatinate. Schiffmann is married and has three children.

Schiffmann joined the SPD in 1967. In 1974 he became a member of the Frankenthal City Council , in which he was elected parliamentary group leader in 1991. From 1990 to 1995 he was chairman of the Frankenthal SPD city association. In 1987 he was elected as a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, to which he belonged for almost four legislative periods until his resignation in 2005. In the state parliament he was chairman of the committee for European issues and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

From 2005 to 2013 Schiffmann was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fridtjof Nansen Academy for Political Education at the Ingelheim Training Center . He is deputy chairman of the sponsoring association of the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate eV
