Dieter Schmidmaier

Dieter Schmidmaier (* 1938 ) is a German librarian and physicist .

Life

Schmidmaier studied library science with Horst Kunze as well as physics and then joined the library of the Bergakademie Freiberg , which he headed from 1967. In 1988 he moved to the German State Library in Berlin , where he was director general from 1989–1990. In 1992 he took early retirement.

Among other things, he dealt with methodologies and techniques of scientific work and in particular with user training.

As the first representative of a socialist state, he was elected chairman of the International Association of University Libraries (IATUL).
