Dieter Wöhrle (born August 18, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German chemist . From 1975 to 2004 he was professor for macromolecular chemistry at the University of Bremen .

biography

Wöhrle completed his doctoral thesis at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin, supervised by Georg Manecke . In 1967 he received his doctorate with his thesis on " Synthesis and semiconductor properties of some complexes and the polymers made from them ". In 1971 he completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin , where he became an assistant professor.

In 1975 he accepted a professorship for preparative chemistry with an organic focus including macromolecular chemistry at the University of Bremen. He stayed there until he retired in 2004. In 1999 he received the “ International Award on Macromolecular Metal Complexes ” and in 2004 the “ Linstead Career Award in Phthalocyanine Chemistry ” from the Society of Porphyrins & Phthalocyanines . Wöhrle is also an honorary member of the " Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences of Macromolecular Compounds ".

His research field includes the synthesis of polymeric metal complexes with low molar mass, of new materials for photocatalysis and the photodynamic therapy of cancer, as well as of new materials for organic semiconductors and solar cells . He also works on organic dyes and metal complexes in mineral carrier substances. He also deals with renewable energy sources , chemical weapons and belongs to the natural scientist peace initiative.

At the Fernuniversität Hagen , he was involved in the Peace Studies Master’s program at the Institute for Peace and Democracy.
