Diethelm Jonas

Diethelm Jonas (* 1953 in Recklinghausen ) is a German oboist and obo professor.

Life

Diethelm Jonas studied in Essen at the Folkwang University of the Arts , in London at the Royal Academy of Music with Evelyn Rothwell-Barbirolli and in Freiburg at the Hochschule für Musik with Heinz Holliger . He won numerous national and international competitions.

Diethelm Jonas accepted an offer at the Lübeck University of Music in 2001 , after having held a chair for oboe at the Trossingen University of Music since 1980 .

For over 25 years, Diethelm Jonas has played as principal oboist in the symphony orchestras in Essen, Munich ( BR-Sinfonieorchester ) and Stuttgart ( Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR , since 2016 SWR Symphonieorchester ) under many important conductors: including Bernstein, Kubelik, Solti, Sinopoli, Leinsdorf, Böhm, Haitink, Celibidache, Giulini; as a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra for ten years under Claudio Abbado .

His solo engagements and master classes regularly take him to Taiwan, China, Japan and South America. He teaches at Geidai University in Tokyo every two years as a visiting professor.

Of the more than 25 CD recordings, including with his Aulos quintet and the Sabine Meyer wind octet , some were awarded the German Record Prize ( Echo Prize ).
