Origin and meaning

The name comes from Old High German and means "The fighter among the people".

Well-known namesake

In the 6th century there lived a granddaughter of King Clovis I named Diethild (Theudechilde, † 598). She supported monasteries and churches and was buried in the Abbey of Saint-Pierre-le-Vif . The day of remembrance ( name day ) of Diethild is the day of her death, June 28th .

Thiathild (Diethild) von Freckenhorst (east of Münster ) was an abbess of the Freckenhorst monastery in the 9th century . Her feast day is January 30th .
