Gothic Madonna from the former Dietkirche in Bonn (approx. 1350)

The Dietkirchen Madonna , probably made around 1350 in Cologne, is one of the most quality works of the High Gothic of the Rhineland scoring Virgin Mary .

Its three-dimensional structure is well preserved, although its original version, dominated by gold leaf , has been greatly reduced.

Foundation of the former Dietkirche in Bonn, near the Roman camp, coordinates 50.743041,7.097757.

Its original location was the Dietkirche near the former Roman camp Castra Bonnensia , which was destroyed during the Dutch War in 1673.

Until 2002, the sculpture was subjected to several years of conservation and restoration treatment in the workshop of the Rhenish Office for Monument Preservation , Rhineland Regional Council.

Today the statue of Mary is in the collegiate church of St. Johann Baptist and Petrus in Bonn, which was built from 1879 to 1886 . A first collegiate church was built in 1729 as a successor church to the destroyed Dietkirche, but not in the same place.
