Dietmar Grichnik

Dietmar Grichnik (born November 29, 1968 in Gladbeck ) is a German economist and professor for entrepreneurship and technology management at the University of St. Gallen . He is director at the Institute for Technology Management and founder of the Center for Entrepreneurship (CfE-HSG).

Life

After completing a bank apprenticeship, Dietmar Grichnik studied business administration and business education at the University of Cologne and Pennsylvania State University . He was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. did his doctorate and habilitation in 2005 on the topic of international entrepreneurship in Düsseldorf after several research stays in the USA. Grichnik lives with his wife and daughter in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Act

In 2005, immediately after completing his habilitation, Grichnik accepted a professorship for Corporate Finance & Entrepreneurship at the University of Witten / Herdecke. In 2007, the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management appointed him a professorship for entrepreneurship.

In 2010, the University of St. Gallen elected him Full Professor of Entrepreneurship and Director of the Institute for Technology Management. Since 2012 he has also headed the Center for Entrepreneurship (CfE-HSG) for the promotion of university start-ups . In 2015, he helped set up the Global Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of St. Gallen. His research areas are entrepreneurial thinking, decision-making and acting under uncertainty as well as start-up and growth financing. In addition to the professorship, he is personally active and supports several start-ups.

In 2016 Dietmar Grichnik published the book Entrepreneurial Living - Enterprise Your Life. Entitled Should Entrepreneurs plan or just storm the castle? he and his co-authors published a meta-analysis of planning processes. In a research article, another meta-analysis shows the influence of entrepreneurial experience on the success of small and medium-sized companies. The Swiss Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Report 2015/16 was published in co-authorship with Dietmar Grichnik. In a white paper, he formulates theses with other experts on the promotion of digital entrepreneurship in the EU.

Mandates and engagements

Grichnik is Dean of the School of Management at the University of St. Gallen. He is a member of the executive committee of the “Förderkreis Gründungs-Forschung” (FGF) and promotes the next generation of scientists. As a member of the "Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration", he is Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
