The Dietrich Bonhoeffer School is a school network consisting of elementary , technical and secondary schools as well as grammar school in Weinheim . It is named after Dietrich Bonhoeffer .

history

Founding time

The school was founded in 1970 as a comprehensive school. At that time it was called "Multschule" (after the former area name). In 1985/1986 the school was converted into a school network and at the beginning of the school year 1987/1988 it was renamed the Dietrich Bonhoeffer School (after the Protestant theologian and resistance fighter Dietrich Bonhoeffer ). Colloquially, however, it is also often called “multi-school”. At the end of the 1960s, the city of Weinheim applied for a school model test, the Weinheim comprehensive school . School operations began in 1970/71. The school had a cafeteria and a branch of the city library. With movable wall elements, variable delimitations of the learning rooms and thus adaptation to changing group sizes should be achieved. Other special features were the artificial lighting and air conditioning. The large sports hall with an extendable grandstand and the primary school were housed in their own buildings. A large, almost park-like outdoor area with a grass and hard court, volleyball field, jumping pit and seating should also improve the learning climate. The comprehensive school in Weinheim was considered innovative and modern and by the end of the 1970s the school had 2,200 students. The aim of the pilot project was to optimally support each individual student. The teaching team for each subject planned the lessons together for the entire year. A test was written at the end of each lesson . There was no evaluation in the form of grades, after the tests it was determined whether the learning objective had been achieved or whether time was needed. At the end of the year, a diagnosis sheet summarized the performance in various learning dimensions. In the main subjects, a differentiation was made between A, B and C levels. Instead of a second and third foreign language, there were profile and compulsory elective subjects (technology, electrical engineering, economics, housekeeping) to choose from. In some cases there were afternoon classes and weekly play hours or interdisciplinary support measures ( e.g. dyslexia courses) and also sporting offers such as selection teams e.g. B. for football, which was then represented at youth trained for the Olympics .

The modification

In April 1995 the Weinheim town council decided to completely renovate the building. Four computer rooms were set up, the technology, housekeeping, biology, physics and chemistry rooms were given new, modern equipment. Despite <! Why despite? -> considerable space savings, space was found for the cafeteria, the branch of the city library and the music theater.

School association

After the renovation, the number of students increased steadily, so that today several music rooms and an art room are used as classrooms. The four types of school have their own rectors and administrations, but art, music, technology, housekeeping, biology, chemistry and physics rooms, as well as the cafeteria, outdoor area and sports hall are shared. Only the primary school has a demarcated play area for breaks.
