Life

Origin and family

Dietrich Droste zu Vischering, the son of the married couple Bernhard Droste zu Vischering and Gertrud von Hamern, came from a family that emerged from the von Wulfheim (Drosten von Dülmen) tribe and has also had this family name as Drosten zu Vischering since 1309 .

Act

Dietrich was first canon in Münster in 1418 and then as pastor in Havixbeck and, like his predecessor Heinrich von Nassau-Beilstein, made his pledge in 1422. In 1435, as provost of the cathedral, he agreed to the chapter statute, which further restricted the provost's power. With this he ended the dispute between dean and chapter regarding the regulation of the prebends . In April 1446 he declared the union of the cathedral chapter and in December 1447 brought about the reconciliation with the bishopric. In the Münster feud , he was undecided and changed sides. In 1451 he moved from the Hoyan to the Moers side. He and the canons Heinrich von Keppel and Sander von Oer did not take part in the election of Bishop Konrad von Diepholz (candidate of Walram von Moers) on December 10, 1456 in Ahaus. All other canons voted for Konrad von Diepholz. Ultimately, neither the Hoyan nor the Moersian side could provide the bishop, because Pope Calixt III. decided on Johann von Pfalz-Simmern . At the beginning of 1462 Dietrich resigned himself to the Dompropstei and was then still active as a canon. He founded numerous charitable foundations and is considered a co-founder of the Agnetenberg monastery in Dülmen, to which he had donated the land.
