The Cistercian monastery Trasobares was a monastery of the Cistercian women in Trasobares, Comarca Aranda , province of Saragossa in Spain from 1168 to 1835 .

history

The Cistercian monastery of Tulebras founded the daughter monastery of Santa María de la Piedad ("Mercy of Mary") in 1168, halfway between Tarazona and Calatayud in Trasobares . Its royal privilege is dated 1188 (by Alfonso II ). (Latest reports speak of a foundation in 1152). The Veruela Monastery was in charge . In the compromise of Caspe in 1412, the monastery stood on the loser's side and was destroyed in the ensuing civil war (allegedly on the orders of the antipope Benedict XIII ). The dismortment led to the dissolution of the monastery in 1835 because it did not reach the critical quota of 12 nuns. The abbess went to the monastery of Santa Lucía , other nuns moved to the monasteries of Zaydía , Calatravas , Tulebras and Casbas . An attempted resettlement in 1851 failed due to the poor condition of the monastery buildings. Today the parish church of La Asunción (“Assumption of Mary”) and the monastery facade from the 16th century are left.
