Cistercian convent of Santa Lucía (Saragossa)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian monastery of Santa Lucía is since 1588 the monastery of Cistercian nuns in Zaragoza in Spain .

history

Hernando of Aragón (1498–1575), Archbishop of Saragossa (1539–1575) and former abbot of the Cistercian monastery Veruela (1534–1539), promoted the change of the Cistercian convent Cambrón to the city of Saragossa , according to the recommendations of the Council of Trento . But this only finally happened 13 years after his death in 1588. The monastery took the name Santa Lucía la Real (after a hermitage previously located on the spot). With Napoleon's war against Spain in 1808 a period of suffering began for the monastery, in which the nuns had to leave their monastery several times and find other accommodation (1808 in the Trasobares monastery , 1837–1840 in the Santa Catalina monastery in Saragossa, 1840–1850 in the Santa María de monastery Jerusalem in Saragossa, in the Spanish Civil War until 1940 in the Carmel of Santa Teresa in Saragossa), but were also able to return again and again. In 1967 they moved into a new monastery in the southern Casablanca district of Saragossa ( Calle de Maestre Racional 17 ). Abbess is currently Mother Inmaculada Gay Serena.
