The Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation gGmbH for prevention and health promotion based in Bochum was founded in May 2007 by Dietrich Grönemeyer . The aim is to promote children's health and to establish health education in schools, as well as other projects in the field of prevention and rehabilitation.

aims

Grönemeyer is committed to health education. He advocates the introduction of health education in schools and is a guest speaker at children's universities. Children's and family books such as The Little Medic , The New Adventures of the Little Medic or We Besser-Eaters exemplify his approach.

Starting point and background

In 2005 the book Der kleine Medicus , which transports Grönemeyer's medical messages, was published. According to the author, high-tech and naturopathy must be combined with loving medicine; the focus is on people. The author introduces his young readers to the secrets of their own bodies and explains what they can do themselves to live healthily and to benefit from the benefits of medicine.

The little medicus served as the initial spark for the establishment of the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation gGmbH for prevention and health promotion. As part of the foundation's work, the Kleiner Medicus books serve as a didactically prepared, teaching-accompanying element for imparting knowledge. The book is intended to provide an example of how health lessons could be made informative and exciting at the same time. That is why it is divided into six school hours with breaks, sports and relaxation.

The project work

The various projects of the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation are presented below.

The Medi-Circus

The Medi-Circus, a health musical also for smaller stages, is based on Grönemeyer's musical Der Kleine Medicus - the first ever children's health musical . The interactive theater Medi-Circus is a shortened form of the musical from 2009. a .: Health classes, music, exercise and artistry. At each location of the play there is also a workshop offering with acrobatics and juggling courses, dance and singing activities for the children and specially designed relaxation and movement workshops for educators.

In November and December 2012, the Medi-Circus, supported by the Techniker Krankenkasse , reached 52 Hessian schools with its medical messages and thus more than 5,000 students. This was followed by a coastal tour on the North and Baltic Seas in July 2013. In September, the Medi-Circus was shown on school stages in North Rhine-Westphalia, and including the coastal tour, more than 10,000 spectators saw the performances.

The Medicus health games

The Medicus health games combine sport and play with health education. In cooperation with sports clubs, the foundation organizes regional health days in all federal states, to which it invites schools from all over the region. This initiative of the foundation was started with the sports club SV Bayer Wuppertal . So far, these games have been held nine times in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Hesse (as of July 2014).

The health ambassadors

Schoolchildren in grades 8 to 12 of all types of school have been able to train as health ambassadors since 2009. This is made possible by the cooperation between the Hessian Ministry of Culture and the foundation. The training aims to raise awareness of prevention and health among students. In a two-day seminar, the participants learn from doctors and educators how they can take responsibility for their own lives and enrich them.

Therapeutic golf

The Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation would like to help children, adolescents and adults with disabilities to improve their quality of life through its funding concepts. To do this, it builds on new and alternative forms of therapy such as therapeutic golf. The concentrated and coordinated sequence of movements and the mental focus on the goal offer people with disabilities in particular the opportunity to experience undreamt-of abilities, to stretch performance limits and thus to surpass themselves with a sporting spirit. This not only increases self-esteem, but also the feeling of life.

Erwin and Rosi

After the success of the Medi-Circus for teenagers, “Erwin and Rosi” went on tour in 2014. The theater production, which was shown in ten cities in North Rhine-Westphalia, is based on the submission of Erwin and Rosi's spiritual father, Dietrich Grönemeyer, and his health series of the same name in Pixibuch format. The focus of the 40-minute, interactive play is particularly on movement and balance - the piece is supposed to promote the motor, sensory and mental abilities of the children. The performance is rounded off by an accompanying program: Under the guidance of motopedians, children get a better feeling for their balance on an exercise course. An exercise calendar developed specifically for this purpose for daycare centers and schools serves as exercise instructions and is intended to ensure the sustainability of the project.

The health city

With the idea of the “Medicus Health City”, the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation offers cities and municipalities nationwide their projects as a “complete package”. The city or municipality, as a co-organizer, receives the title “Medicus Health City”. Local sports clubs, schools, kindergartens, resident doctors and the media are involved. The hands-on theaters “Medi-Circus” and “Erwin und Rosi” give guest performances at daycare centers and primary schools. In subsequent workshops, students and teachers deepen what they have experienced. Local companies and health insurance companies have the chance to present themselves at an accompanying health fair, while doctors can offer health checks.

financing

Fundraising

Grönemeyer photographs all over the world. 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the pictures as part of a fundraising project go to the foundation's work. With the purchase of a picture, for example, a school sponsorship can be specifically taken over and the performance of one of the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation's interactive theaters can be made possible.

Another project is called “Kiste orange”: ten kilos of oranges from Mallorca - unwaxed, without chemicals. By ordering an “orange box”, donors not only promote health, they also symbolically help with the harvest of a Mallorcan orange tree. Because many orange groves are no longer harvested. With the result that overripe oranges fall from the tree, spoil and permanently damage the soil through acidification. Above all, however, the Kiste Orange supports the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation in promoting health-oriented behavior in children and in schools and in giving people with limited mobility back strength and joy of life. The net proceeds from each order go directly to the projects of the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation.

donate

As a gGmbH, the Dietrich Grönemeyer Foundation is heavily dependent on donations to finance its prevention and rehabilitation projects.
