Dietrich Marcuse (born February 27, 1929 in Königsberg ) is a German physicist who, among other things, deals with quantum optics .

Marcuse studied at the Free University of Berlin with a diploma in physics in 1954 and received his doctorate in 1962 at the TH Karlsruhe (on an HCN (hydrocyanic acid) burl developed at Bell Labs). From 1954 to 1957 he was at the central laboratory of Siemens and Halske in Berlin . From 1957 he was at Bell Laboratories . In 1994 he retired there.

He dealt with waveguides, fiber optics and quantum electronics.

In 1989 he received the Max Born Award and in 1981 the Quantum Electronics Award of the IEEE .
