Dietrich Tanke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dietrich Tanke († 1443 at the earliest ) was Elekt von Kurland and a priest of the Teutonic Order .

As Provost of Courland, he was elected Bishop of Courland by the cathedral chapter in 1424 .

Johann Tiergart now promised to support Dietrich Tanke financially and also with all other diocesan appointments with the Grand Master . Nevertheless, when a short time later the new appointment of the diocese of Samland was due, he was not considered. When it became known that Tanke was intriguing against Tiergart and had close contacts with the Archbishop of Riga , Henning Scharpenberg , an opponent of the Teutonic Order, the Grand Master refused to give him any further support. After he had participated in the provincial council in 1437 and was still provisional in 1443, all trace is lost.
