Dietrich von Gemmingen († 1482)

Dietrich von Gemmingen († 1482 ) was an early representative of the barons of Gemmingen . He was Vogt in Löwenstein , Ganerbe in Widdern and lord of the castle on Maienfels . He belonged to a short-lived branch of the still existing Steinegg and Guttenberg lines within the family.

He was a son of Konrad von Gemmingen († 1463) and Margaretha von Weingarten. The parents owned a quarter of the inheritance of Aries , where Dietrich lived during their lifetime. In 1455 he received the Württemberg fiefdom from his father. In 1457 he was Vogt in Löwenstein. In 1464 he acquired Maienfels Castle for 300 guilders from Götz von Adelsheim, Lutze Schotten, Dieter von Weiler and Dieter von Erbach. When Duerkheim and other places were taken by Count Palatine Friedrich, Dietrich was among the captains of Hans von Cronberg. In 1481 he was at the tournament in Heidelberg . In 1482 he was dead.

He was probably buried in the grave of his father, who died in 1463, in Gemmingen, where he is mentioned on the grave slab. When the Gemminger Church was rebuilt, the grave slab was placed in the garden of Gemminger Castle , where it has been preserved to this day.
