The DigiProtect Gesellschaft zum Schutz digitaler Medien mbH was founded on December 21, 2006 by Moses Pelham and Andreas Walter. The managing director of DigiProtect was Alexandros Besparis.

The company was renamed FDUDM2 GmbH on February 12, 2013 , and then preliminary insolvency proceedings were opened on February 15, 2013.

Business model

In a flyer from 2007, the company advertised its own corporate purpose by “getting the provider of illegal content to submit a declaration of cease and desist and to pay lump-sum damages”. The company originally came from the music industry, in the meantime DigiProtect has also been increasingly used to enforce the copyrights of film and television productions. DigiProtect wanted to limit the illegal offering of copyrighted works on the Internet through education, warning and deterrence. First and foremost, the large-scale warnings were noticed.

criticism

Some media and blogs criticized the mass warnings from DigiProtect and the law firm Kornmeier & Partner commissioned by it. The point of criticism was the invoicing of legal fees. DigiProtect aroused the suspicion of not wanting to defend their intellectual property, but of making money with mass warnings. The criticism was fueled in part by internal communications by WikiLeaks that appeared to confirm this suspicion.
