Digitech ( spelled DigiTech ) is a privately held US company based in Sandy, Utah. The manufacturer has been producing effects units for musical instruments since 1984, including for electric guitars , electric basses , keyboards , microphones and audio processors (studio equipment and live equipment).

history

The manufacturer first became famous in 1989 with the release of the first DigiTech Whammy Pedal , an effect device for pitch shifting for electric guitars, electric basses, keyboards and voices. A year later the company developed one of the first effects processors , delay and harmonizer effects , the IPS-33B . In 1990 DigiTech was bought by Harman International Industries (since 2017 Samsung Electronics ). Distortion , rhythm computers and modulation effects have been manufactured in the middle price segment since 2004 . Guitarist Eric Clapton was also honored in 2004 with a DigiTech signature distortion device.

The following artists, among others, use DigiTech products either live or in the studio: Eric Clapton, Matthew Bellamy , Joe Satriani , Steve Vai , Jack White , Tom Morello , The Edge , David Gilmour , Dimebag Darrell , James Hetfield , Devin Townsend and TM Stevens .
