Digital Subscriber System No. 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Digital Subscriber System No. 2 ( DSS2 ) is an ITU-T recommendation Q.2931 Digital Subscriber Signaling System No. 2 - User-Network Interface (UNI) layer 3 specification for basic call / connection control standardized signaling protocol for dial-up connections over ATM - broadband networks . It is designed for use between an ATM terminal and the user network interface and contains the necessary elements for point-to-point connections as well as for point-to-multipoint connections. In the connection request, a specific data transmission rate of the connection can be requested, as well as a traffic class that contains guarantees for specific transmission qualities (for example CBR and VBR ). DSS2 has remained meaningless in practice because the almost identical signaling protocol UNI Signaling of the ATM Forum has prevailed.
