Dillinger (born June 25, 1953 in Kingston ; actually Lester Randal Bullock ) is a Jamaican reggae musician and deejay .

Life

His career began in 1971 as a deejay for the sound systems of El Brasso and Prince Jackie. Originally Lester Bullock wanted to call himself Dennis Alcapone Junior, but named himself after the gangster John Dillinger . His first singles were influenced by rhythm and blues . He took Tighten Up Skank and Dr. Skank in 1973 at Lee Perry . Freshly , Brace a Boy , CB200 and Killer Man Jaro followed in 1974 . The following year (1975) his first album Ready Natty Dreadie was released , which was produced by Clement Seymour. His most successful album, CB200, followed in 1976 with the song Cocaine in My Brain , which reached number 35 in the German single charts in September 1977. Other songs and albums such as Plantation Heights (1975), Crank Face (1976) and Marijuana in My Brain (1979) followed successfully.

The Clash , other British new wave and punk bands or the German band Die Toten Hosen on their album Auswärtsspiel referred to Dillinger or covered his songs. He retired from the music business in the 1980s and only returned to the recording studio in 1990. Dillinger runs his own label Oak Sound.
