Dimitris Pikionis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dimitris Pikionis ( Greek Δημήτρης Πικιώνης , * 1887 in Piraeus , † 1968 in Athens ) was a Greek architect and landscape architect.

Life

Pikionis grew up in a family of captains in Piraeus. From 1904 he studied at the Polytechnic , where he also attended the drawing courses of the painter Konstantinos Parthenis. His circle of friends consisted of artists such as Giannis Tsarouchis and Giorgio de Chirico . Pikionis also painted himself, but without going public with his artistic work during his lifetime.

Tsarouchis wrote about Pikionis, who paints “architecture with the pedestrian walkways without being picturesque”. The individual slabs of the paths are designed like spoilers and can be read as a long walkable work of art.
