The spelled stones are a group of sculptures along the river spelled .

As part of the first cross-border State Garden Show in 2003 in Gronau (Westphalia) (D) and Losser (NL), artists from the Netherlands and Germany were invited to submit designs for works of art at the State Garden Show 2003. Around 80 artists accepted this invitation, and a jury selected individual and overall projects from these submitted designs, which were then implemented over the next few months.

And awarded the 2nd prize, the concept was spelled stones of Anke Engels from Gronau that the group of artists form-Los from Havixbeck was very similar. That is why it was natural for the artists from Form-Los to take part in the Dinkelsteine ​​project. The creation process of the sculptures was documented and promptly published on the Internet.

13 sculptures made of Ibbenbürener sandstone were created , which were installed along the Dinkel over a distance of 15 kilometers. The work on the sculptures could be observed by visitors in Gronau-Epe and on the grounds of the Baumberger Sandstone Museum in Havixbeck. After the Gronau-Losser State Horticultural Show in 2003, the sculpture trail was expanded to include two sculptures by Dutch sculptors in the Losser community.
