Dinosaur Comics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dinosaur Comics is a webcomic by the Canadian Ryan North . The comic is an example of a " constrained comic ". Every single comic consists (with a few exceptions) of the same panels (images), only the dialog changes. The webcomic makes one reference to The Angriest Dog in the World , a comic strip by director David Lynch , which is structured similarly.

The first episode was released on February 1, 2003, and Dinosaur Comis has been released continuously on weekdays since then. In the meantime it also appeared in smaller print media.

content

A dialogue between the main characters always develops, all of them dinosaurs (a Tyrannosaurus Rex , a Utahraptor and a Dromiceiomimus , the species names also serve as proper names here), other characters (e.g. God or Edgar Allan Poe ) occasionally interfere from outside the images shown . The dialogue often follows a " dialectical " structure: T-Rex presents a thesis that is then dismantled by the others. A wide range of topics is dealt with, for example cultural-scientific topics or value relativism, but also pop- cultural topics such as rap .

A log cabin , a car and a woman who are always under the foot of the T-Rex play a subordinate role in terms of content.

Graphic style

The artwork consists of a relatively coarse raster graphic , individual pixels are easily recognizable, the color shades usually only consist of a few gradations. The background is always white, there is no horizon line or other structural elements.

reception

Dinosaur Comics was widely recognized and received several awards. The Webcomics Examiner website ranked the comic among the best webcomics of 2004 and 2005. In 2005 it also received the Web Cartoonists' Choice Award for Outstanding Anthropomorphic Comic . The website Cracked.com voted him among the "Eight Funniest Webcomics"

Furthermore, there was occasional collaboration with authors of other popular webcomics (for example xkcd or a softer world ).
