Dinshaw Bilimoria

Dinshaw Bilimoria (* 1904 in Kirkee ; † after 1942) was an Indian film actor and director.

Life

Dinshaw Bilimoria made his film debut in 1925 in ND Sarpotdar's mythological-historical film Chhatrapati Sambhaji . In 1927 he moved to the Imperial film company , where he had his first major successes as a film partner of Sulochana in Mohan Bhavnani's Wildcat of Bombay (1927) and RS Choudhury's Anarkali (1928). At the end of the silent film era from 1927 to 1929 and in the early talkies in India from 1933 to 1939, Bilimoria and Sulochana formed a popular screen couple , who particularly delighted a broad audience in the romantic dramas by the director Choudhury. He was considered the highest paid silent film star in India. After 1932 they made sound film remakes of several of the silent film successes , including Anarkali (1935) and Bambai Ki Billi / Wildcat of Bombay (1936).

Between 1929 and 1932 he played in several films for the Ranjit Movietone film company under the directors Chandulal Shah , Nanubhai Vakil and Nandlal Jaswantlal .

Bilimoria probably also directed two films in 1940 and 1942; however, Azadi-e-Watan (1940) may be a dubbed version of a US import.

His brother was the actor Eddie Bilimoria .

Individual evidence

  1. Whether the sound engineer Dinshaw Billimoria , who was active from the 1950s to 1970s and received a Filmfare Award in 1964 for his work on Bandini , is the same person is not clear with certainty.
  2. so speculates Encyclopaedia of Indian Cinema , p. 66
