Diphenylmethyl ester of the natural amino acid L -alanine - protective group marked in blue .

Diphenyl methyl esters , also benzhydryl esters , are among the carboxy protective groups in peptide synthesis . The methods known in organic chemistry, starting from free amino acids or N -protected amino acid derivatives, are used to represent the amino acid esters.
