Direct cut

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With direct cut , engl. Direct to disc recording , the audio signals are cut directly from the microphone by a cutting machine onto lacquer or copper foil. The usual analog or digital " master tape " is no longer required . The film also serves as a recording medium as well as a template for subsequent reproduction on sound carriers (vinyl LP / single).

The advantages are the short signal path and thus the elimination of additional sources of error.

A disadvantage of the method is that it is not possible to intervene in the sound recording . Technical or musical errors that occur during the recording cannot be corrected later.

A well-known example of direct cut LPs are the series by Charly Antolini , "Knock out" and "Crash".
