Dirk Weitemeyer

Dirk Weitemeyer (* 1958 ) is a former German basketball player . He played for ASC 1846 Göttingen in the basketball league  and was German champion twice with Lower Saxony. He wore the shirt of the German national team in 13 international matches .

Player career

Weitemeyer played in the youth department of the BG 74 Göttingen , with the B youth team of the "Veilchen" he was German champion in 1975. He then went to the neighbor ASC 1846 Göttingen in the basketball league . In 1980 and 1984 he won the German championship with the club. In the top German league he scored a total of 3260 points during his career.

After the end of his basketball career, Weitemeyer founded "Dirk Weitemeyer GmbH" in 1988, a company for office communication and information technology. As an entrepreneur, he remained loyal to basketball in Göttingen, among other things as a leading member of an association of sponsors of the BG74 and as the namesake of the mini-tournament organized by the association.

National team

In the summer of 1978 Weitemeyer made his debut in the German national team and played 13 international matches by May 1979. In August 1976 he had already participated in the European championship in Spain with the German junior national team. In the course of the tournament he achieved an average of 6.4 points per match and came eleventh in the final score with the selection of the German Basketball Federation .
