Disabled Peoples' International (DPI) is an international, non-governmental organization based in Ottawa with regional offices in Asia Pacific , the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and North America and the Caribbean.

It is a network of national organizations or associations of people with disabilities , founded in 1981 to promote the human rights of people with disabilities through full participation, equalization and development opportunities. DPI supports organizations in over 120 nations with everyday problems.

The goals are:

  • Promoting the human rights of people with disabilities;
  • Promoting the economic and social integration of people with disabilities;
  • Development and support of organizations of people with disabilities.

DPI has a special status as an advisor to the United Nations and works with many international organizations and governments around the world.

In 1992, the association initiated the European day of protest on equality for people with disabilities, which has since been celebrated annually on May 5th, 2011 for example under the motto " Inclusion begins in the head".

The German branch of the association is self-determined life .
