Distance teaching

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Distance learning is a form of school lessons that are legally from the schooling duty of the state and thus to the maintenance of the instruction in the event of a pandemic is obtained. For distance teaching, the available technical possibilities are used to create a spatial distance for all people involved in the teaching. Distance teaching temporarily replaces face-to-face teaching . The learning processes are to be deliberately designed so that they are didactically and methodologically not one-sidedly dependent on presence in the classroom. It is inadmissible to pass schooling on to the parents. It is also factually incorrect to refer to distance learning as “home learning”. The focus of the term is on teaching. The aim is a form of teaching equivalent to classroom teaching.

In order to bridge a longer period of time, online lessons (online schooling) are aimed for. This includes hardware for teachers and students as well as department-approved software. The minimum software equipment includes a learning platform with a course management system and a web conference system . In several federal states z. B. uses the web conference system BigBlueButton .

The Internet portal Mebis of the Bavarian Ministry of Culture with a learning platform based on Moodle is exemplary . The chairman of the Federal Parents' Council, Stephan Wassmuth, would like face-to-face teaching coupled with qualified distance learning, in which the parents should be deliberately left out. Distance learning is not subject to the regulations of the Distance Learning Protection Act . For the exact formulation / delimitation, the education ministries of the federal states therefore use the term discipline teaching.

Approval of software

The Ministry of Education of the respective federal state is responsible for the approval of software for distance learning in the form of a whitelist . In an interview, the Education Minister of Thuringia was asked: Does the required “whitelist” now exist, from which it emerges which digital media teachers can safely use to communicate with their students?

Helmut Holter : “We give the teachers all the support we need. We are also grateful for information from the data protection officers. But to come with the threat of fines would really be the wrong way. ”The whitelist has been requested for months by the representatives of the parents and teachers. The BigBlueButton conference system was only activated for the Thuringian schools at the beginning of May 2020. The Thuringian data protection officer wants to examine possible data protection violations by teachers or schools. Furthermore, the educational necessity of so-called e-portfolio software is unclear and controversial. This includes the Exabis or Mahara used in Baden-Württemberg . These are integrated as extensions in Moodle and also enable personalized monitoring and evaluation of learning progress. They contain a system of reports known as self-assessment .

Media concept

The media concept is a technical-pedagogical concept for the use of media in each individual school. Its creation is a prerequisite for financial support in accordance with the digital pact . An important part of the media concept is the consideration of the requirements of distance learning.
