The Ditty Bops are a California band from Los Angeles . Their music is characterized by a mixture of folk , bluegrass , jazz , western swing , ragtime and style elements from the musical . The heads of the band are Abby DeWald (vocals and acoustic guitar ) and Amanda Barrett (vocals, mandolin and dulcimer ). Her songs, which are often arranged in a retro style, are appealing due to their distinctive harmonies and their playful style and speed. The content of the songs varies, with a focus on environmental issues.

The band's first activities were in 1999 when members of what would later become the Ditty Bops met in New York City. The merger to form today's band was not completed until years later.

Six of her songs were broadcast as film music on the hugely successful American series Grey's Anatomy . Her song There's a Girl appeared on the series soundtrack.

The presentation of their second album Moon Over the Freeway in 2006 was accompanied by a bicycle tour of several months across the USA from Los Angeles to New York.
