The Divadlo Josefa Kajetána Tyla ( DJKT , German: Josef-Kajetán-Tyl-Theater or Theater Pilsen ) is a theater in the Czech city of Pilsen . It plays theater, opera, ballet and musicals .
history
The Great Theater in Pilsen was built between 1899 and 1902 and opened on September 21, 1902 with the opera Libusa by Bedřich Smetana and a speech by Adolf Heyduk . It has 444 seats. The architect of the neo-renaissance theater was Antonín Balšánek . From 1981 to 1985 the house was rebuilt by Pavel Němeček.
today
The Pilsen Theater today presents itself as a multi-discipline house with over 600 events annually. It is home to ensembles for drama, opera, ballet, operettas and musicals.
In 2014 the New Theater, a newly built additional theater building, was completed. In the presence of Minister of Culture Daniel Herman and Bishop František Radkovský , it was ceremonially opened with Smetana's Bartered Bride .
