Division I (chess) 1985/86
The 1985/86 season was the 17th season of the Allsvenskan in chess.
Division I Norra
In the northern relay, the reigning champion SK Rockaden Stockholm won all competitions and was thus the superior relay winner. Wasa SK secured second place for the final tournament thanks to the better number of points on the board ahead of Upsala ASS . Uppsala Akademiska and Schack 08 were promoted from Division II . While Schack 08 just managed to stay in the league, Uppsala Akademiska had to relegate together with Solna Schacksällskap .

Division I Södra
In the southern season, the Schacksällskapet Manhem and the promoted Malmö Schacksällskap were able to secure the two final places, while the two participants in last year's final tournament SK Kamraterna and Åstorps Schacksällskap had nothing to do with the top fight. In addition to Malmö, the Lundby Schacksällskap was promoted from Division II , which together with Schacksällskap Allians Skänninge went down again directly.
