Division national (chess) 2008/09

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The national division (chess) 2008/09 was the top division of the Luxembourg team championship in chess.

Champion was De Sprenger Echternach , while the defending Le Cavalier Differdange with fourth place had to settle. The chess club Turm a Sprénger Matt Schëffleng and the second team from Cercle d'échecs Dudelange were promoted from the Promotion d'honneur . While Schëffleng achieved relegation, Dudelange's second team had to relegate. In purely sporting terms, Esch Rochade would have been Reine's second relegation, but since only one promoter from the Promotion d'honneur was reported for the coming season, Esch was still relegated. For the reported team squad see team squad of the national division (chess) 2008/09 .

mode

The tournament was divided into a preliminary round and a final round. The eight participating teams first played a simple round-robin tournament . The first four played for the title in Poule Haute , the last four in Poule Basse against relegation. The total of the team points (2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a defeat), then the number of board points (3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, 1 point for a one loss, 0 points for an uncompromising loss). For the final placement, both the points from the preliminary round and the points from the final round were taken into account.

Game dates

The competitions were held on September 28, October 12 and 26, November 30, December 14, 2008, January 25, February 1 and 15, March 8 and 29, 2009.

Preliminary round

The field of participants turned out to be a two-tier society, so that the division of the final rounds was determined ahead of time. The teams that qualified for the Poule Haute won all of their competitions against the teams that qualified for the Poule Basse. Preliminary decisions had already been made in both the title fight and the relegation battle. Leader of the table De Sprénger Echternach was three points ahead of second-placed Gambit Bonnevoie , at the other end of the table the second team from Cercle d'échecs Dudelange was three points behind the saving sixth place, and Esch Rochade Reine was even five points behind .

Poule Basse

After the preliminary round, Schëffleng and Differdange's second team were almost saved, and they couldn't take this good starting position out of their hands. Esch gave the last place to Dudelange's second team and thus avoided relegation, as a place in the national division became free in the coming season.
